Navy Island Ontario, Canada: By Jacob Reyes and Nolan Owens
Navy Island is found on the upstream of Niagara Falls 7 kilometers south in Ontario, Canada. The only way you can get to Navy Island is by a boat and no facilities are provided, the land being maintained in its natural state. And everyone that visits Navy Island must follow all the regulations of the Island. The British used Navy Island from 1761 to 1764 as a shipyard to build the first British decked vessels to sail the upper lakes. On December 14th 1837, William Lyon Mackenzie, after being defeated in Toronto, led the Patriot army from Buffalo to occupy Navy Island. And in 1761 the British established a shipyard on Navy Island to construct ships that are required to transport troops and supplies to Lake Superior and Lake Huron. During Pontiac's uprising during 1763-1764 they constructed three schooners (Boston, Gladwin and Victory) and two sloops, the Charlotte and the Huron.
